Digipak Analysis of an Indie Band

Arctic Monkeys - Suck It and See
The front cover of the the digipak is plain white and not very eye-catching which may suggest the band is cares only about selling the music not the image which is typical of indie artists. The albums title is in the centre of the page in a simple text which adds to the gritty indie image that the band is portraying, the words suck it and see may be seen as quite controversial to non-fans. The band's logo in the corner this is the only advertisement of the band and implies that the only way you will find out more about the band is to buy the album.

The back cover of the digipak still continues with the plain theme with the track list in the same simple black font as the title on the white/cream background, ans as expected the page also features the production company logo and the bands website.

Inside the digipak there is an image of the band standing in a field, there is a retro effect on the image to make it look quite old and something that you are more likely to see in your families photo album rather than from a professional photo shoot, this may be the band trying to convince their fans that they don't need to look 'pretty' because it is the songs that matter. The change in theme is also reflects on the title showing their fans that they have to test the product before forming an opinion on them. Inside the left sleeve there is a booklet that contains the songs lyrics and there are no images of them. Inside the right sleeve there is the CD inside a paper envelope which is an unusual presentation of the disc it implies that the CD is a gift as you have to keep opening things up to get to hear the music.

Digipak Analysis of a Mainstream Band

Mcfly - Radio Active (2008)

This is mcfly's 4th album and it seems as if they are trying to rebrand their image from the sweet teenagers singing pop songs with a punk rock twist, to a more indie image the microphone tongue could symblise their influence from The Rolling Stones toungue logo and this influence may be crossed over in to their music.

The Front cover of the digipak features one picture of each band member. The bright, vibrant green links to the title radio active as it has the effect of a radio active glow, this is supported by the glow in the dark title. It also includes sketches of a mutated microphone as if it has come to life from a radio active substance.

The back cover follows the green and black colour scheme and includes a list of the tracks on the CD which is typical  of all Cd's and also what is included on the DVD, at the bottom of the page there is the web address this plug may try to coax the buyers of the album to go online and perhaps but more merchandise.

The cover art on the CD and DVD continue the theme and have the same image of the mutated microphone but with the colours reversed, the background has a lighter green pattern which makes the focus of your attention the discs.

Inside the digipak there is a booklet that includes images of the band these pictures show them to be carefree young men who have a lot of fun their fans will aspire to be one of them or have a life like they have. There are also pages which have their song's lyrics on them, the lyrics are rough scribbles and have lots of words crossed out which suggests that they are copies of how the original song was made.

Included in a sleeve in the digipak there is a piece of card which has the tour dates and information on where to buy tickets to see the band it is is another plug to try and get more money out of the fans.
